Sacred Sound & Yoga Immersion: Saraswati (Full Day)

  • Northcote Uniting Church - Chalice 251 High Street Northcote VIC 3070 Australia (map)

Join us for a day-length immersive workshop invoking the Hindu goddess, Saraswati, co-facilitated by Dina Smirnova and Jacinta Percy. This immersion is the continuation of a series of gatherings intended to explore Sacred Sound & Yoga by examining various mystical themes with a strong focus on maintaining the integrity of the teachings and spiritual practices. This 1-day workshop is an opportunity to build upon the knowledge we shared last year on a deeper level.

Saraswati, “the flowing one”, is the goddess of communication, music, learning, and spiritual discernment. Working with Saraswati Shakti enables the practitioner to identify the difference between true and false wisdom. She is the original seed of inspiration, providing a pearl of profound, creative wisdom that can be translated into daily life. Some examples of where this energy may be present or needed include: providing the skill and eloquence in speaking and writing; awakening dormant musical abilities or deepening the established connection with music and learning languages.

This gathering will be the first of a three-part workshop series, exploring the triad of creation, sustenance, and transformation. We welcome all levels, bodies, and experiences into the space. Some prior yoga experience and knowledge are recommended but not required.

Jacinta Percy is a singing and music teacher, facilitator and performer. She provides private lessons and group workshops in Melbourne, Australia.

Jacinta’s love affair with the voice, sound and music began as a wee babe, with Richard Clayderman being the only medicine that would lull her to sleep. It was an inevitable journey with a piano playing songstress for a grandmother and a great-great-aunt, dubbed “Queen of the Irish Song”, in her family lineage.

Her deep love and passion for voice, sound and music have led her over the past 15 years to perform and work with profound teachers in Australia, Europe, Israel and India, crisscrossing genres from Classical to Jazz, Folk to Improvisation, Dhrupad to Carnatic.

Her knowledge of her voice, her open heart and listening ear, allows her to facilitate with a gentle grace that enables others to uncover what they are seeking.

Her belief that we all need to sing, sing with courage, sing with joy, sing to mama earth, uncover our greatness and shine forth our potential into the world is what inspires her to share her love and passion too all.

Dina originally comes from Baku, Azerbaijan and moved to the United States shortly after she was born. She began choreographing at eleven years old, teaching at fourteen, and has been performing, creating, and teaching movement ever since.

She has been fortunate enough to study with many world-renowned teachers, especially drawing a significant influence from her studies in New York City at Katonah Yoga, Kula Yoga Project, and Pure Yoga and in San Diego, California from Anna Spalding and Maria Anderson. Dina is passionate about taking an interdisciplinary approach to her collaborations, with a particular interest in the connection between movement and sound.

In addition to being a teacher, Dina is also a dance artist, energetic healing practitioner, and co-founder of the corporate mindfulness business, Samadhi Wellness.
